Welcome to Schmidt Auto Care | Springboro, OH

In late 2019, we proudly became the home of the Autel Advanced Driver Assistance System for the Springboro and surrounding area. There is no other shop in a 50-mile radius that is boasting the technology we are and I want to talk with you about it. As adaptive driving systems are put on more and more cars, you may be wondering what that looks like in terms of repair. When should you be looking for this repair? What does this repair involve? There are a lot of questions around this topic on the consumer end because all you were told is you had fancy safety features on your sweet new ride. What you weren’t told is when and how to care for them.

Adaptive driving came about as early as 2000 in the Cadillac Deville for night vision & the 2000 Toyota for dynamic laser cruise control. But in 2014 a change was made in the auto world and all vehicles under 10,000 lbs. were required to have rearview cameras by 2018. So by 2018, cars in production were using all sorts of varieties of Adaptive Driving Technology to make your vehicle more autonomous, and less reliant on driver delayed reaction in the event of an accident. Some examples of ADAS is Park Assist, Lane Departure Systems, Collision Avoidance Systems, and Brake Assist. It’s pretty phenomenal what your vehicle is programmed to do if it’s been created in the last 2 to 3 years.

You may wonder when you will need this service. It really will come into play most if you have had some sort of body damage to your vehicle. You will most likely need some sort of calibration to be done. If you have mirrors replaced, or a windshield, you would need to have this service done. If you have had to replace any of your bumpers or the hood/trunk of the vehicle, you would need to have the service done. When you have suspension work done, the ADAS calibration will need to be done again. And if you are replacing any modules you will need calibration. Much of this pends on if your vehicle is even offering some of these options. But if you are in 2017, or newer, you certainly have at least 1 adaptive driving system.

If you are wondering how long this service takes, it varies. It could be anywhere from 60-90 minutes up to 3 hours. The precision a technician needs to get the calibration correct is very detailed work and you don’t want them rushing this process. The adaptive driving systems are put in place for driver safety, and if the measurements on the targets and lasers aren’t accurate, the outcome could be bleak. So, you are welcome to wait for this service, or we are happy to call you when the vehicle is ready for pick up.

This is one of the most technical repairs that our shop offers. Our technicians have gone thru a substantial amount of training to ensure they can do the job with confidence and excellence. We love to be the leaders in the newest, and best, technology in automotive so we could not be more excited to be your destination for Advanced Driving Repair Work.
